2025 MLK Unity Day Celebration
The City of Toledo and the University of Toledo, in partnership with the Human Relations Commission, are proud to announce this year's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration centered on the theme "Building Bridges and Breaking Bread."
The cornerstone of this year’s celebration is a video featuring six community members reflecting on Dr. King’s core principles: nonviolence, justice, love, faith, courage, forgiveness, hope, and service. The video also includes remarks from Councilmember Brittany Jones, UT Interim President Schroeder, and Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz.

Rather than reading books, this interactive event gives attendees the chance to check out a person and listen to their stories. Hear Toledo residents become live books and share their stories.

Little Amal is the 12 foot puppet of a 10 year old Syrian refugee child who has traveled the world from 2021 to 2023. Join us for an afternoon of activities for all ages including crafts, resource and information tables, live music, light refreshments, and more! All are invited to attend this free event.

The HRC is proud to sponsor a pilot eSports tournament, meant to foster a mentorship relationship between adults and teens! Our pilot program, currently for youth in the Birmingham Library area, will provide two days of practice and a tournament on the last day.
